Be good and you will be lonesome

Be good and you will be lonesome
Be lonesome and you will be free
Live a lie and you will live to regret it
That's what living is to me
-Jimmy Buffett

The 4th of July. Independence Day. Choosing our own destiny.

As the years of my life wind on, choosing my own destiny becomes increasingly important to me. It's one of the reasons I write. Hell, it might be the main reason. I know that. I write because I can control the story. I can control the life of my characters in a way that I find difficult in my own. I can choose their destiny. I can give them their independence.

And in so doing, I give myself some independence too. I live a life a little less lonesome; a life with a little less regret. Everyday I write I give myself a new independence day. Everyday I write I live less of a lie. And that's what living is to me.

Good to see a kindred spirit. Writing a blog where one person comments is about as lonesome as lonesome can be. But importance can't be judged by popularity in one's lifetime, else Van Gogh would be considered an abject failure.

I've always loved this quote but struggled a bit to know what Twain meant from it. I know what it means to me, but can you help with what you think Mark meant by it?

This is my personal take on Twain's meaning - and it's just one man's opinion. But Twain was a man that spoke his mind. He pulled no punches. He lived a lively life. He made enemies because of this. But he didn't live a safe life. A "good" life so to speak. One that doesn't offend people. But that isn't an interesting person. Not someone that Twain would want to know or be like. So if you were "good" then you wouldn't have many friends and thus would be lonely.

Buffett's take is in line with this I think. Live a lively life and you will be blessed with many friends. And that's what living is to me.

Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this site. It's simple, yet
effective. A lot of times it's very difficult to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say that you've done a great job with this.
Also, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Chrome.

The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iphone and tested to see
if it can survive a twenty five foot drop, just so she can
be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

I have been browsing on-line more than 3 hours these days, yet
I by no means found any fascinating article like yours. It's lovely price enough for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made good content material as you did, the web will likely be a lot more helpful than ever before.

http://www.petinsuranceuks.co.uk/dog-health.html Be prepared for any loopholes within your medical insurance plan. The arrival of the young generation has put the baby boomers at the back of the stage. You have to make sure that the insurance coverage will take care of catastrophic occasions which may affect you.

I hear the quote to mean a statement about monogomy. When one is away from their partner & feels lonely - that can fuel many peoples reasoning in trying to salve the loneliness with another. To a married person, though. That choice takes you away from missing & thinking about your other half & subjects one to also be inclined to not be honest to the folk you meet in the desire to not feel lonely - which makes you hurt your partner, your new acquaintance - & yourself ultimately. All because you were fueled by a loneliness that could be made into a good thing if you weren't being BAD.
